Donegal Marathon is the ‘People’s Marathon’ and promises to be a great day for all of the family with a host of activities planned for participants and supporters alike. On the day, there will be great prizes and events include the full marathon and the half marathon which can be either run, walked, or both! It is up to you, your level of fitness, and perhaps your training regime! If the event itself is not for you, why not come along and lend your much appreciated support to those taking on the challenge.

Last year saw many of our participants tackling their chosen event for the very first time and the organisers hope to see a repeat of this great achievement for many others. Committee Chairman, Dessie Larkin stated, “Last year was an amazing event and we witnessed a community spirit that does the heart good. The route was bedecked with the Donegal colours, the participants were cheered on almost every step of the way, and the buzz around the starting and finishing lines was palpable. It was a great day’s craic that was enjoyed by everyone. This is also a great opportunity for those runners living away from Donegal to run a marathon or half marathon in their own county”.

Donegal Marathon Legend, Danny McDaid added, “While we foster the unique community spirit of this event, this is a competitive marathon also and for the more serious minded competitors in this event, I feel that we have a marathon to rival any. We have tweaked the route, and it will hopefully make for quicker times. I hope that all those who took part last year will be back this year to try and improve on their times or to make the jump from half to full marathon.”

Yes indeed, this summer promises to be one that will see many training in and around Donegal for an event that has burst onto the Donegal sporting calendar.
